Time to talk

Orkney Blide Trust, in partnership with Natasha Leslie Counselling and Noreen Wright Relationship Counselling, offers counselling on a time limited basis.  A total of six to eight sessions (depending on the circumstances) will be offered and there will be no charge for this service. This service is available to anyone resident in Orkney, however, if you are not already a member of Orkney Blide Trust's services you will be asked if you would like to join.

Counselling is a talking therapy that offers a safe and confidential space to explore issues and difficult feelings that are affecting mental health.

It could be time to talk if you are experiencing any of the following;

Anxiety: Stress: Depression: Eating Disorders:  Suicidal Ideation: Trauma: Self harm: Bereavement: Abuse: Transition: Anger: Addiction: Low Self Worth: Relationship Issues: Family Issues: Terminal Illness: Phobias: Insomnia.

Sessions take place on a Monday or Thursday each week, at 5.10 pm, 6.10 pm and 7.10 pm (times are approximate) and on Saturday mornings between 11am and 2pm. Living Life to the Full (LLTTF) 

Sheena Leask has been trained to deliver Living Life to the Full therapy to support people, particularly those with anxiety and depression.  LLTTF is based on a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy model but has been adapted to make it more understandable and easy to use.

The aim of the therapy is to help people to make positive changes in their lives that will improve how they feel and help them to feel more connected to friends, family and community.  During the sessions people are supported to understand how their thoughts, feelings and behaviours are connected and how problems of low mood and anxiety can be kept going by becoming stuck in a vicious circle.

There are a range of worksheets that complement the sessions and are used to help people enhance their own wellbeing.  Generally, the starting point is to look at how events, thoughts, feelings and activity affect each other, and sessions include defining activities which improve mood, trigger points for anger, problem solving and facing fear and anxiety.  Each session ends with a clear achievable plan being made and this is reviewed at the next session.
